Job Purpose

• Honda's Center of Excellence is looking for a semiconductor technology intelligence professional to identify and assess emerging technologies, companies, supply-chain developments, and industry shifts relevant to automotive and intelligent mobility. This is not an IC chip design engineer role.
• This role combines semiconductor expertise with field engagement and analysis of patents, technical literature, and market signals.
• In this role, the candidate will own assigned sensing domains within leadership-defined priorities and decision boundaries, challenge narratives with evidence, identify risks and opportunities early, and turn incomplete information into defensible recommendations. When technical verification is needed, the role may support or lead approved feasibility studies, experiments, prototypes, or proof-of-concept work with internal and external experts.
• The position requires initiative, while material changes, external commitments, resource use, and business decisions require leadership alignment and approval.

Key Accountabilities

• Scan semiconductor technology, suppliers, startups, patents, manufacturing, packaging, EDA, geopolitics, and supply chains; flag weak signals and propose initiatives.
• Conduct approved research through visits, interviews, conferences, demonstrations, and outreach to companies, universities, consortia, and experts; pursue evidence gaps.
• Triangulate patents, papers, standards, product data, disclosures, experts, and market evidence; separate facts, judgments, assumptions, and uncertainty.
• Support approved studies, experiments, simulations, prototypes, or proofs of concept; lead workstreams, document results, and recommend next steps or closure.
• Create briefings, technical analyses, early warnings, opportunity assessments, and recommendations for R&D, strategy, procurement, and leadership; defend conclusions with evidence. 

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

• Minimum educational qualifications:
  • Must have at least a college level Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably with a Major / Concentration in a related STEM field of study.
• Minimum work experience in the industry:
  • At least 3 or more years in semiconductors, technology intelligence, market research, supplier evaluation, research, strategy, or related work.
• Other job-specific skills:
  • Should have demonstrable industry knowledge of devices, architectures, EDA / IP, foundries, packaging, test, supply chains, and automotive uses. Hands-on experience is valued; this is not a chip-design role.
  • Investigating new topics, evaluates sources and conflicting claims and states uncertainty.
  • Engaging vendors, startups, researchers, and experts credibly; probing gaps and detecting unsupported claims.
  • Be self-directed and collaborative; own recommendations, align with leadership, escalate risks, and support decisions.
  • Should be able to conduct studies, simulations, prototypes, or proofs of concept and recommend next steps.
  • Must have strong research, writing, data visualization, and presentation skills; external engagement preferred.
  • Should be willing to travel as required and build an industry network.

Workstyle

• This is an onsite job. One remote workday a week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
